What are Bed Bugs?:
Bed Bugs or Cimex lectularius are small, elusive,
and parasitic pests. They live strictly by feeding on
the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals.
The name 'bed bug' is derived from the insect's
preferred habitat infesting in common areas where people
may sleep. Bedbugs, though not strictly nocturnal, are
mainly active at night and are capable of feeding unnoticed
on their hosts.
A common misconception is that they are not visible
to the naked eye. However, adult Bed Bugs
grow to 4–5 mm in length and 1.5–3 mm wide. They are
reddish-brown, flattened, oval, and wingless. Their
small size makes it difficult to find and kill
bed bugs.

Bed Bug Bites:
Bed Bug bites result in a red welt or swelling of the
skin which can last for a few days. The bite is also
made in orderly rows unlike the random pattern made
by mosquitoes and could become itchy. Most severe Bed
Bug bites can swell and form blisters or even
result in small loss of skin tissue.
If you think you have been bitten you should not be
too worried about contracting any hazardous disease
from a Bed Bug bite as the medical
significance of the bites is limited mainly to inflammation
and itching

How Do You Get Bed Bugs?:
The distribution of Bed Bugs is assisted by the fact
that they are flat and thin and are therefore able to
squeeze in very narrow cracks and crevices. It is believed
that luggage and suitcases play a major part in the
distribution of the pest around the world. The lining
and stitching of suitcases provide a perfect place for
Bed Bugs to rest. These suitcases are usually mixed
with other suitcases during transport - this is where
the Bed Bugs can spread.
It therefore does not matter if you are staying in a
clean 5-star resort or a budget accommodation facility,
if you luggage has mixed with other luggage, you may
unknowningly transport them with you during your vacation.
